ENGLISH AND DRAMA

July 9 - 21, 2007

Huntington Library, Museum and Gardens

San Marino, California

Enrolment limited to 20

Teaching Shakespeare's plays is as much of a performance art as acting or directing them.  It is a skill that demands stamina, inspiration, and love of language and the stage. It is often the greatest challenge a teacher will have in either the theatre or the classroom.

Shakespeare at the Huntington is an unique, two-week workshop that takes advantage of one of the world's great libraries and research centers, its extraordinary gardens, and its proximity to the entertainment capital of the world.

This year the workshop will focus on Shakespeare, Power, & The Imagery of Leadership. The selected texts will be: Hamlet, Coriolanus, Macbeth, and Measure for Measure.

Classes during the two-week workshop include scene analysis, acting and directing techniques, curriculum development, research techniques, and lectures by distinguished scholars and theatre professionals. The course includes visits to area museums and Los Angeles area theatres.

The international faculty is lead by director Louis Fantasia, formerly Director of the International Shakespeare Globe Centre's  Teaching Shakespeare Through Performance Institute. Staff includes master teachers and theatre practitioners, as well as guest speakers and visiting scholars.

Tuition for the two week program (10:00 am - 5:00 PM M-F) is $300.00. For further information contact Louis Fantasia at 213-383-0648 or lf101@excite.com
