Shakespeare at The Huntington
July 11-22, 2011 M-F 9:30AM-4:30PM
Shakespeare at the Huntington
is a unique, two-week institute
presented by The Huntington Library, Art Collections and Botanical
Gardens and designed primarily for secondary teachers of English and
Drama. The course features an international faculty of scholars,
educators and theatre professionals, and takes advantage of one of
the world's great libraries and research centers, its extraordinary
gardens, and its proximity to the entertainment capital of the
world. Topics covered included: scene study, verse and text work,
voice, movement, classroom pedagogy, theatre history and criticism.
Attendance at selected plays is required during the two-week course.
Outside reading and a final evaluation are also required.
This year the workshop will focus on
"Money, Misery and
Morality" in
Shakespeare's plays. The selected texts include
Timon of
Athens, Taming of the Shrew
and
Henry VI, parts
1,2,3.
Course includes:
• Attendance at Shakespeare performances and visits
to the Huntington Library, Getty Villa andCenter; Norton Simon
Museum;
• Tuition: $250 (includes theatre tickets, museum
entry and lunch at the Huntington);
• LAUSD professional development credit;
• Monday-Friday, July 11-22 9:30-4:30
